Travelers Championship: Power rankings at TPC River Highlands
Jason Day is back to the Travelers Championship for the fifth time and third year in a row. The Aussie is coming off his best tournament finish, a T-12 (66-68-66-69). That was his third top-27 here in Hartford.
Last year Day was solid overall at TPC Highlands and just lacked the one super low round to contend. He averaged 312 off the tee, hit 65.28% of GIR, averaged about two-thirds fairways and gained 1.209 strokes per round on the greens.
Day is coming off a T-21 last week at the U.S. Open, which was his second start in the last three weeks. It was his eighth top-25 in 12 starts in 2019.
He’s had four top-10’s this year in search of his first win since the 2018 Wells Fargo Championship.
The 31-year-old is 15th on Tour in total strokes gained led by 12th in putting and 14th off the tee. Day will have a lot of wedges in his hand and that’s normally a good thing: 13th in proximity from 50-125 yards and 26th from 100-125.
You also need to go low at the Travelers and Day can do that (13th in birdie or better percentage).
