Patrick Cantlay had a decorated amateur career that saw him win the Haskins Award and rise to No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Shortly before he turned pro, Cantlay added to his lore by firing the lowest round by in amateur in PGA Tour history. That was a 60 on a soft TPC River Highlands course at the 2011 Travelers Championship. Cantlay was 19.

He went on to finish T-24 that year. Injuries and personal tragedy robbed Cantlay of a good chunk of his 2010’s, but he’s bounced back to a high level.

Cantlay posted his best Travelers finish in four tries last year with a T-15 (69-68-65-68). That’s just one of several high finishes he’s piled up.

The UCLA alum has 14 top-10’s since 2018. He picked up his second PGA Tour win a few weeks ago by beating an elite field at the Memorial. Entering that week he finished T-9 at the Masters, T-3 at the RBC Heritage and T-3 at the PGA.

Cantlay also shook off an opening 73 at the U.S. Open to close the final 54 holes in 4-under to finish T-21.

There’s no weakness in the 27-year-old’s game right now statistically. He’s third on Tour in total strokes gained and is 23rd or better in each category. That’s pretty staggering.

Cantlay knows how to go low (sixth in birdie average) at an event like this. He’s also first in par-4 scoring. He hit nearly 70% fairways and over 75% GIR last year. Get the putter rolling like he has done this year (23rd SG) and he’ll be in great shape.`
