There were a lot of names I was kicking around for this 10th spot. Do I go with one of the young guns from Oklahoma State like Viktor Hovland or Matthew Wolff?

I think they’re both destined for great pro careers, but they’re set to embark on their third big-time event in as many weeks and are likely running on fumes.

So, instead, I’m going with the veteran who is trying to turn things around this week, slotting him in at number ten for the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Watson had top-30’s in six of his first nine starts in 2019 through April, but has since posted MC-T63-MC-T54.

Perhaps a new venue will be what Watson needs. He should have a good chance to carve up the four par-5’s at Detroit Golf Club as he’s second on Tour in strokes gained off the tee and seventh in par-5 scoring.

Watson looked good early on last week at one of his favorite Tour stops, the Travelers Championship. He opened with 69-66 before fading on the weekend.

The 40-year-old won three times in 2018 and even when slumping, he’s never far from heating back up. There are more consistent names higher on my list this week, but Watson has one of the best overall resumes in the field.
