The downside: Billy Horschel has yet to truly contend in a tournament in 2019. The upside: He’s not far away at all.

The former Florida Gator enters the Rocket Mortgage Classic only two top-10’s (8, T9) in 15 starts, but only one missed cut. His worst made cut was T56 at the Masters.

His stats paint a picture of balance. Horschel is a positive in all strokes gained stats, but he’s no higher in any category than 43rd (putting).

He’s looked good in his recent starts with a T23 at the PGA, T19 at Colonial, T9 at the Memorial and T32 at the U.S. Open.

Horschel took last week off as well as the week before the U.S. Open, so he comes in well rested.

He’s generally a good ball striker and currently sits 64th in SG approaching the green. He’s 125th in driving distance, but I don’t see that as a huge detractor this week at Detroit GC.

Horschel tends to play his best golf late in the summer and into the fall. He had four top-fives last July through September and was the 2014 FedEx Cup champion.
