A lot of pundits (including myself) seem to be sleeping on Jason Kokrak this year. In listing him for the Rocket Mortgage Classic, I hope I’m not too late to the party.

The former Xavier Musketeer has rocketed himself up the list of best players without a PGA Tour win. Kokrak has four top-10’s in 14 starts in 2019 including T2 at the Valspar Championship.

He also led the Tour with 19 straight made cuts dating back to the 2018 Open Championship until he MC’d last week at the Travelers.

Kokrak will be one of the best ball strikers at this week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic. The Canadian is 22nd in strokes gained tee to green thanks to marks of 20th off the tee and 12th approach.

He’s a very good mid-iron player sitting top 30 in approaches from 125-200, which looks useful getting around Detroit Golf Club.

His bugaboo is putting. Kokrak has infuriated DFS owners not only for his overall stats (114th SG), but for his propensity to miss from inside five feet.

But, in this day’s game, bombers who hope for a hot putting week seem to have a better shot than short hitters who have to be on point with their ball striking.

Prior to the Travelers, Kokrak took two weeks off so he should be well rested.
