Rickie Fowler will look to represent Rocket Mortgage well by backing up their sponsorship dollars in him with a good finish.

The 30-year-old took last week off after a T43 at the U.S. Open. Prior, Fowler was T14 at the Memorial and is not far removed from top-10’s at the Masters and Wells Fargo.

Fowler also won early in the year in Phoenix and was T2 at the Honda Classic.

He’s been solid, but not spectacular, with every club in the bag this season. He ranks 18th in total strokes gained and is top-50 in every category led by 19th in putting.

Fowler has struggled out of the rough (168th in proximity), but he should be able to hit more fairways at a shorter course like this. He’s 22nd in proximity from the fairway, so finding the short grass is key to be able to play his usual aggressive style.

Fowler finished T3 at the 2014 U.S. Open at Pinehurst and T8 at the 2018 BMW Championship at Aronimink, both of which are Donald Ross designs.

As long as his sponsor obligations don’t run him too ragged, I like Fowler to contend against a relatively weak field this week at Detroit Golf Club.
