3M Open: Power ranking the top 10 at TPC Twin Cities
Without a ton of top tier talent in the field, I’ll give Lefty the nod here. Just because he’s shown some poor form recently doesn’t mean he can’t catch fire in a given week. With his crafty veteran experience, a new tournament like the 3M Open could play right into his hands.
Mickelson missed the cut in his last start at the Travelers Championship, but is coming off a much needed week off. The 48-year-old played three of four weeks before his rest.
He was a winner at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, T2 at the Desert Classic and also posted T18 at the Masters in 2019.
Mickelson ranks 27th in birdie average and is still swinging as hard as ever (18th in club head speed). He can still hit it long enough to score well if TPC Twin Cities plays long and wet.
Phils been known to spend a lot of time in the rough, but he knows how to handle it. He ranks 21st in proximity from the thick stuff.
This could very much be an “I’m only going to play shots I expect to hit at the Open Championship” week for Mickelson, so tread with a little caution. That said, I think he’ll look to regain some form heading into the year’s final major championship.
