3M Open: Power ranking the top 10 at TPC Twin Cities
Is Patrick Reed back? It’s too early to say. A T5 last week at the Rocket Mortgage Classic (68-68-65-70) was a step in the right direction. And perhaps a trip back to Minnesota, where he enjoyed a ton of success in the 2016 Ryder Cup, may bring a little more good mojo. It’s “Minnesota Nice”, after all.
"“…me and my team, we all knew I was really close to low scores, we knew we were close to some great golf,” Reed said after Saturday at the RMC. “And then on top of it, when you’re just not getting those numbers, it’s just frustrating. You’re at home, you’re like, I feel like I’m doing everything I’m supposed to be doing, what’s going on? So you need rounds like this to validate and to show yourself that you are on the right path, you’re doing the right things, and it actually is closer than some of the scores show.”"
That was Reed’s first top five finish worldwide since a T2 at the DP World Tour Championship in November. He was also T7 at the WGC-HSBC Champions in 2018.
Reed enters the 3M Open off of a T32 at the U.S. Open and T30 at the Travelers Championship prior to the RMC.
The 28-year-old ranks ninth in strokes gained around the green and 60th putting. He’s also 31st in par-4 scoring. Look for him to take this week at the 3M Open as seriously as anybody as he looks to prove he’s still one of the best players in the world.
