Max Homa – 150/1

Two months ago, not that many people knew about Max Homa. Heading into the Wells Fargo, he was the 413th ranked player in the world. He had missed eight of the last 15 cuts, didn’t play in 2018, and missed the cut in 15 of 17 events in 2017.

The Wells Fargo changed all that, when Homa won his first PGA event.

He is now a top 100 ranked player in the world, and has put up a lot of good rounds since then, although to be fair, they are mixed in with some BAD rounds.

At the PGA Championship, a bad Saturday ruined his week after shooting 79, placing him +11 for the week. If he would’ve kept in line with his other three rounds of 70-71-71, he would’ve finished somewhere around 15th place.

Saturdays are actually what have done him in at the last four events he has played in, each of which have been his worst round of said tournament. A 73 at Charles Schwab, 74 at The Memorial, and a 71 at the Rocket Mortgage all dropped him down the leaderboard.

When you look at the surrounding rounds, he has been playing quite well. -15 through 12 rounds shows that he puts in good scores most of the time, and just gets a little nervous or anxious the day after making the cut.

Watch Homa around the greens this week to get a good idea of how his game is feeling. He ranks 56th off the tee, 49th in approach shots, and 63rd in putting, all of which are good stats to have. The killer is around the green, where he ranks a lowly 185th. If he is hitting good chips and plays well Saturday, there is no reason Homa won’t finish Top 20.

Those are the dark horse picks for this week’s 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities. Best of luck everyone!
