It’s not a John Deere Classic power rankings without Zach Johnson. The 43-year-old is a tournament board member and will be making his 18 start at TPC Deere Run.

This venue wasn’t always an ATM for ZJ, though. He had just one top-20 (T-20) in his first seven trips. The switch flipped in 2009 with a T-2 finish. Now in this decade his results read starting in 2010: T-21, T-3, 1, T-2, 2, T-3, T-34, T-5, T-16.

"“This place is a highlight every year on my calendar, on my schedule, for a number of reasons,” Johnson said. “I love the golf course. “That goes without saying. I love the people, being a part of this company, an ambassador of this John Deere tournament, and on the board of the tournament.”"

The Cedar Rapids, Iowa, native will have the full backing of the galleries this week.

Johnson will be glad to return to a comfortable venue. He’s got just one top-10 in the 2018-19 season at his Sea Island, Georgia, home last fall at the RSM Classic.

He struggles to finish high on long layouts, but TPC Deere Run has proven to be a course where shorter hitters can succeed.

Jonson’s made three of his last four cuts and comes in off of three weeks of rest following a T-58 at the U.S. Open.

He’s 51st on Tour in strokes gained approaching the green and 48th around the green. His putter’s due to come around soon. Normally one of the best out there, Johnson is 107th.

He’ll know this week’s greens better than any. Expect some more putts to drop this week for ZJ.
