The 2019 John Deere Classic is at TPC Deere Run for the 20th straight year. Let’s check out some of this week’s dark horse candidates at the John Deere.

For anyone looking to still get into the Open Championship this month, The John Deere Classic is their last opportunity to receive the chance. A top-five finish will gain you automatic entry into 2019’s final major. That will be a caveat for this week’s dark horse candidates, as we will look at players who are not yet in the field.

Before we get there, let’s start by checking in on last week’s picks and seeing how we did.

  • Adam Hadwin – 50/1 – 4th (-18) – Shot 69 on Saturday, seven strokes worse than Wolff.
  • Lucas Glover – 70/1 – T-7th (-16) – +1 on Friday makes his high finish quite impressive.
  • Danny Lee – 80/1 – CUT – 71-70 – Lee made eight birdies, but also five bogeys and a double.
  • Dylan Frittelli – 125/1 – T-46th (-10) – Averaged 67 over the first three days. A 67 would’ve tied him with Glover for 7th. Alas, he shot 73 on Sunday.
  • Max Homa – 150/1 – Day Three Cut – 68-69-73 – Was -5 through two days, but a 73 on Saturday sent Homa home early.

Two Top Ten finishes plus Frittelli was looking great before falling away on Sunday. Last Week at the 3M Open was a pretty good week for the dark horse picks. Let’s see if I can keep it going this week. Once again, the cut line for odds is going to be 45-1. That means that 14 golfers are ineligible for dark horse consideration.

Here are the picks for the John Deere Classic. Remember, these are all golfers who have yet to qualify for The Open Championship.
