Is the glass half full or half empty for Justin Rose? It may be in the eye of the beholder.

He’s taking the Tiger Woods plan and rested since the U.S. Open four weeks ago. His result was a solo third where he scrambled his ass off to post good enough scores to land in the final pairing and have a chance on Sunday.

The glass half empty side tells you his ball-striking was horrid. Rose had trouble finding the center of the clubface and lacked birdie tries. Sunday saw him waste plenty of opportunities to truly contend for the trophy.

I’m taking the optimistic route as I think the time off will do wonders to recalibrate his swing. He’s been one of the more consistent players in the last five years, which has helped him rise to No. 1 in recent years.

Rose ranks 25th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained approach and fourth in SG putting. He’s above average in all categories.

He won back in January at the Farmers Insurance Open and has made seven of his last eight cuts.

Rose burst onto the scene at the British Open back as a 17-year-old amateur in 1998. He holed out on the 72nd hole to tie for fourth place.

Rose will make his 18th British Open start. He was the low man over the last 36 holes last year at Carnoustie en route to a career-best T2 finish.

Rose also has a T6 at the 2015 Open and has made 15 cuts.

At the majors this year he’s gone MC-T29-T3.
