Trying for a repeat

As mentioned in the intro, Francesco Molinari is trying to do something that hasn’t happened at the British Open since 2007-2008, when Paddy Harrington won both events. After a strong finish last year to overtake Kevin Kisner, Molinari heads to this year’s event tying for the 9th best odds to win the British Open.

Francesco Molinari – +2800 (28/1)

@golfcoachoday – Chris O’Day’s Pick: Francesco Molinari – I like Molinari to repeat as British Open Champ. Brooks Koepka has shown that it is possible to repeat as a major winner. Why Not Molinari?

He played well for the most part at last year’s British Open, shooting 70-72, and then turning it on come the weekend where he shot 65-69. He took home the victory by two strokes, and I see him playing well again this year.

Other than his putting, the other three facets of his game are pretty strong. He is accurate off the tee, has a good short game, and is fantastic out of the bunkers.

He placed T-16th at the U.S. Open, and T-5th at The Masters after an unimpressive final round. Going back to the British Open, I see Molinari regaining the confidence from last year and taking home this year’s Claret Jug.
