Matt Wallace 40-1

Relatively unknown to American golf fans, Wallace will find the spotlight for the first two rounds this week as he tees it up alongside Mr. Tiger Woods.

The Englishman has risen quickly in the rankings, starting the 2018 season outside of the top-100 and climbing all the way to the 23rd ranked player in the world ahead of the British Open.

Prior to last year’s British Open, Wallace missed three consecutive cuts and added a fourth when he failed to see the weekend at Carnousite.

But with four wins on the European Tour, Wallace is looking to break onto the Major scene and is on the right track. Wallace carded his best Major finish this year at the PGA Championship finishing T3, then backed it up with a T12 at Pebble Beach.

A T14 at the Scottish Open indicates that Wallace is continuing to play nicely this season. At 29, Wallace finds himself as one of England’s elite players, but that, surprisingly, hasn’t been indicative of British Open success. The last Englishman to win the British Open came all the way back in 1992 when Sir Nick Faldo won at Muirfield.

At 40-1 to win and 4-1 to finish inside the top-10, Matt Wallace is looking to buck that trend.
