With the 148th British Open taking place at Royal Portrush this week, let’s take a look at some of the contenders that are regulars on the European Tour.

We know that some of the main contenders for this week’s British Open at Portrush are already major winners, in the likes of Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka, and Tiger Woods.

But what about those European Tour regulars? And what about those that could be looking for their first major triumph? Who is most likely to follow in the footsteps of three-time major champion Padraig Harrington, and England’s Danny Willett, the 2016 Masters Champion.

This is the first time that some of these players will have ever played at Royal Portrush, despite the Irish Open being held at the venue back in 2012, when Ryder Cup hero Jamie Donaldson took the honours.

Here at ProGolfNow, we have taken a look at some of the European Tour regulars who could feature towards the front of the field this week.

None of the five we have picked have ever won a major championship before either, but could this week be the time that one of them breaks their major duck? If that is the case, then don’t say we didn’t warn you!
