Tom Lewis – T11: -3

The second Englishman on this list is Tom Lewis, who achieved his best-ever finish at a Major Championship, as he finished in a tie for 11th with a total of 281.

Lewis, who is now in his ninth season on the European Tour, has only won twice since turning professional, having won the Portugal Masters twice, in 2011 and 2018.

Throughout this season, the Englishman has been very inconsistent. He started with a couple of wonderful performances at the start of the calendar year.

Lewis finished inside the top ten at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA, the first Rolex Series event of the season. He then finished 3rd at the Saudi International powered by SBIA in February.

From there, Lewis then missed cuts at the ISPS Handa World Super 6 Perth and the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, along with poor showings at the PGA Championship and Belgian Knockout.

However, alongside Paul Waring, the English pair finished 2nd at the GolfSixes Cascais, just missing out on the title to the Thai pair of Thongchai Jaidee and Phachara Khongwatmai on the third playoff hole of the final.

The British Open was Lewis’s first top 40 finish since that team event at the start of June, and the Englishman finished in a tie for 11th, doing so after a terrible start.

Lewis shot an opening-round 75 to sit at +4, before shooting 68 on both Friday and Saturday to move under par ahead of the final round.

A final round of 70 saw Lewis move into the top 15, finishing the event at -3, and sealing his best-ever finish in a Major Championship, bettering his T30 finish at the 2011 British Open, where he won the Silver Medal for being the low amateur at Royal St. George’s.
