Matthew Fitzpatrick – T20: -1

Finishing the British Open at -1 saw Matthew Fitzpatrick secure his best-ever finish in his home major, as he ended the week at Royal Portrush in a tie for 20th.

The five-time European Tour winner, who currently holds the Omega European Masters after defending his title by winning a playoff for the second season running, has not taken a win in 2019.

He did finish 2nd in the first event of the season, missing out on the Honma Hong Kong Open presented by Amundi by a single shot to Aaron Rai.

Fitzpatrick continued his good form with top 30 finishes two of the majors, the Masters and the U.S. Open, as well as reaching the same mark at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, WGC-Mexico Championship.

The Englishman achieved his second runner-up finish of the season at the BMW International Open, where he lost out in a playoff to Italy’s Andrea Pavan.

After missing the cut at the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucia Masters, Fitzpatrick returned to form at the Renaissance Club, finishing in the top 15 at the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open.

A level-par opening round was followed by rounds of 69 and 70, as Fitzpatrick entered the final round of the British Open at -3. A Sunday 73 actually saw him rise up the standings, despite shooting +2 for the final round. A final score of -1 saw the Englishman finish in a tie for 20th, his best performance in the British Open.
