European Tour Regulars With Hopes Of FedEx St. Jude Victory
By Matt Coles
Danny Willett
The final man on our list is the only man to have won a major tournament. Danny Willett took home the Green Jacket after winning the Masters in 2016, becoming the first Brit to do so in 20 years.
After that victory, the Yorkshireman had a terrible run of form, almost dropping out of the top 500 in the World Rankings. However, he is coming back to his best, and he notched up his second top ten finish at the British Open last week in Portrush, having achieved the same feat in 2015.
Willett also finished in a tie for 12th at the U.S. Open earlier this year, while a T41 finish at the PGA Championship was the first time he made the cut in a major on American soil since 2016.
His return to form culminated in a victory at the European Tour’s season-ending event, the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. Willett also has four other European Tour victories, all coming before his major triumph.
The Englishman has a pretty good record at WGC events in his career as well, having finished in the top three at the Mexico Championships, Match Play, and the HSBC Champions.
Willett begins his week at Southwind alongside Webb Simpson and Jim Furyk on Thursday afternoon, teeing off from the 10th at 12:26 pm, as he looks for his first WGC victory this week at the St. Jude Invitational.
