Wyndham Championship: Top 10 power rankings at Sedgefield
Golf’s stars are eyeing the top 10 in the FedEx Cup standings while the rest of the field seeks to ensure a spot in the coveted top 125 during this week’s Wyndham Championship.
One of the more interesting weeks on the golf calendar is here with the Wyndham Championship. It’s the last week of the 2018-19 PGA Tour season and everyone in the 156-player field has something to play for.
Those near the top of the FedEx Cup standings are looking to climb inside the top 10 to cash in on the new Wyndham Rewards $10 million bonus. It is split up with $2 million going to the winner, $1.5 million to second, etc. Most of these top-shelf players sat this week out and will hope to not fall in the rankings.
Those less fortunate are fighting for a spot in the top 125 to make the playoffs. Some are also eyeing the 126-175 spots that would qualify them for Korn Ferry Tour finals to keep their cards that way.
This is a week where course history can be a factor. Sedgefield has hosted this event since 2008 and in years past. The Donald Ross course measures 7,127 yards for a par 70.
Henrik Stenson fired the tournament 72-hole aggregate record 258 in 2017. Jesper Parnevik’s 23-under total in 1999 is the best score to par.
The fairways are relatively generous. This is more of a second shot course that values ironing the ball to the right spot on greens to have uphill putts on Ross’ sloping greens.
All sorts of players can win as we’ve seen with recent winners like Henrik Stenson, Davis Love III, Brandt Snedeker, Si-Woo Kim, etc.
There will be some tired golfers here as some will play their third week in a row following the Open Championship, WGC-Memphis and here.
If you’re looking for good value picks, find some guys you trust near the 125 line that need to make a move.
I like bubble boy Daniel Berger to potentially have a good week. Major champion Jason Dufner is also looking to sneak inside the top 125.
The weather looks rainy late in the week, so keep an eye out for power players to perhaps take advantage of a soft course.
Let’s get to the 10 I’m going with to win in North Carolina:
