Wyndham Championship: Top 10 power rankings at Sedgefield
Considering Jordan Spieth had two triple-bogey 7’s in round one and two double-bogey 6’s on Sunday, it’s impressive how the recent 26-year-old birthday boy grinded out a T-12 in Memphis.
His scores of 70-70-66-68 are encouraging. He continued his hot putting by gaining over a stroke on the field on the greens. Spieth only hit 50% fairways and will need to avoid trouble this week in North Carolina to contend.
"“I feel really good about the progression that’s being made,” Spieth said. “I feel like I expected, you know, to have a little bit of roller coaster as I make this progress, but I’m on the right track. It feels really good, I’m excited about next week.”"
This is Spieth’s first trip to the Wyndham Championship since he finished solo second here in 2013. Patrick Reed edged him in a playoff.
He comes into the week coming off of five top-20s in his last seven starts. He didn’t have any top-20s in his first 11 starts of the year, so this is good progress from the former three-time major champ refinding his swing.
Spieth ranks 31st on Tour in strokes gained around the green and seventh putting. His driver has harmed him a lot this year (178th SG off the tee), so I expect him to shelve it most of this week at a shorter venue like Sedgefield.
