Wyndham Championship: Top 10 power rankings at Sedgefield
Patrick Reed returns to Sedgefield for the first time since 2016. The last time the Wyndham Championship went to a playoff was when Captain America fired 14-under (65-64-71-66) took down Jordan Spieth in extra holes in 2013.
"“Just the feeling coming back to a place where we won our first event and just the support we’ve had ever since we’ve been here,” Reed said before the 2014 Wyndham Championship. “We flew in yesterday afternoon, and just the warm welcomes we’ve gotten from not only the people that work with the event, but also all the fans around the area is awesome. It really jump started my career, that’s for sure.”"
Reed was playing poor golf by his standards for most of 2019.
He didn’t record a top-10 until a T-5 at the Rocket Mortage Classic in late June. That seemed to spark Reed as he’s since gone T-23 at the 3M Open, 10th at the British Open and T-12 at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude. Reed battled back from an opening 73 to close with three straight rounds in the 60s.
Reed’s one of a handful of players to have played in Ireland, then Memphis and now in North Carolina. By the same token, most of the field are guys jockeying for FedEx Cup position who have also been playing quite a bit of golf.
Reed is also one of the tour’s workhorses. He played 28 or more worldwide events every year since 2013. This will be just his 21st start.
The 28-year-old is ninth on Tour in strokes gained around the green and 65th in SG putting.
He’s made all four cuts at the Wyndham Championship including T-22 in his last visit.
