The PGA Regular season comes to a close at the Wyndham Championship. Here are some dark horse candidates to watch.

The 2019 PGA regular season is coming to a close. It seems odd to hear that in July, especially with the majors so close in our rear-view mirror. With so much on the line, plenty of golfers, whether they are a favorite or a dark horse, have a lot at stake.

Before we get too far into it, it’s time to check-in to see how the picks from last week fared.

Chez Reavie – 55/1 – T-27th (-3) – Reavie actually had the 7th most birdies of the week, but bogeys prevented Reavie from taking advantage of his 18 total birdies. He had 13 bogeys and one double.

Danny Willett – 66/1 – T-48th (+1) – Willett was up and down all week, never better than -2, and never worse than +2.

Matthew Wolff – 80/1 – T-24th (-4) – After struggling with five bogeys on Thursday, Wolff would shoot -5 on Saturday to get into the top 25.

Bubba Watson – 100/1 – T-9th (-8) – Bubba started hot Thursday with a 65, and was at the top of the leaderboard for a while. 70-68-69 to finish would just get him into the top ten.

Jim Furyk – 100/1 – T-27th (-3) – A 74 Thursday dropped Furyk out of contention. A bogey-free 65 Friday brought him back under par and got him into the top half of the field.

Instead of the usual 45-1, we are bumping it back to 50-1 this week. There are nine people at 50-1, so we are cutting them all from the choosable field. The field is nowhere near as deep as it was last week, with most of those golfers already having a berth in the FedEx playoff series locked up.

For this week, there are a lot of people fighting to make it into that top 125, the group of players who will tee off at The Northern Trust on August 8th.

For now, we focus on the Wyndham. Here are this week’s dark horse candidates to bring home the title from Sedgefield Country Club.
