Bud Cauley – 80/1 – 100th in FedEx Cup Rankings

If I came up to you and asked “Who leads the tour in SG around the green?”, my guess is that you would run through 50 names before giving up and asking for the answer.

That answer? It’s Bud Cauley. He leads a group of three (himself, Byeong Hun An, and Brandt Snedeker) that are clear and away numbers 1,2, and 3 in SG around the green. Cauley gains .684 there, where 4th place Baddeley gains .460. That’s the same difference from 1 to 4 as it is from 4 to 39.

31/31 scrambling from the fringe, 6th overall in scrambling, and top 20 in sand save percentage and distance from the hole out of the sand. As long as Cauley gets near the green in two, he should avoid bogeys all week.

Cauley is in the top 50 in both birdie average and birdie percentage as well. With plenty of opportunities this week, Cauley should put together a great ratio of birdies-to-bogeys.

All he needs is for his putter to pick up the slack. At 139th on tour, he is going to need to bring some solid putting all week to get into the top ten. His game around the green is great. If his putting can follow, Cauley will emerge on Sunday as a dark horse to finish strong.
