Tommy Fleetwood THE NORTHERN TRUST FedEx Cup Power Ranking

If there’s one thing I love on the international stage these days, I love me some Tommy Fleetwood. The guy has been on the come-up for a couple of years now, and he’s found a way to balance a full-time PGA TOUR slate with making a handful of starts on the European Tour. That he’s put himself in the discussion for major championships is a testament to his development as a well-rounded pro, and the benefits will continue to roll in.

Fleetwood enters THE NORTHERN TRUST ranked 19th in the FedEx Cup race, which gives him an all-but-guaranteed line to the TOUR Championship, and the ability to play some especially free golf this week with no doubt about his positioning for the BMW Championship. He’s also been trending in the right direction over the last several weeks, running off four straight top-25 finishes, as well as top-fives in both the Open Championship and the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational. The trans-Atlantic two-shot is hard enough to pull off, but he made it look pretty simple overall.

This will be Fleetwood’s second venture into the FedEx Cup Playoffs, and if last year is any indicator, things will only be getting better. The Englishman went T20-T24-T8-T11 in last year’s postseason, finishing 19th overall.

His season-long stats aren’t going to blow anybody away, but Fleetwood is running hot at the right time. He led the field in Memphis in strokes gained tee to green, and was 21st in strokes gained putting. If he keeps up that type of performance again at Liberty National, he could be in line for a third straight big week.
