Justin Rose ought to be beaming this week on site at Medinah Country Club.

It’s the site of his clutch putt on the 17th hole to defeat Phil Mickelson at the 2012 Ryder Cup. His 1UP win (and 3-2 record for the event) helped propel Europe to a 14.5-13.5 victory.

Along with those sweet memories, Rose should be happy that he’s still got a reasonable shot to win the FedEx Cup.

He’s a lock for East Lake, but the Englishman needs a solid finish to climb higher for the Tour Championship which moves to a new net scoring system.

Rose hasn’t played much this season. The BMW Championship will be just his 16th start of 2019 after playing 23 or more events in 11 of the last 12 years.

He’s been in fine form of late with a T-10 last week at the Northern Trust (65-68-69-71). Rose’s putter gained him nearly two strokes a round on the greens.

He ranks second on Tour in strokes gained putting.

His ball striking stats weren’t too bad, all in all. If they get back to his season levels, watch out.

Despite dealing with new Honma clubs this year, Rose ranks 24th in strokes gained on approach and 26th in strokes gained tee to green. He’s also eighth from 175-200 yards.
