Rory McIlroy – 8/1

Kathy Bissell – Rory McIlroy – I’m going with Rory McIlroy, as he’s good on northern greens. DJ, Brooks, and others grew up on Bermuda.

Richie Randolph – Rory McIlroy – I’m picking Rory McIlroy this week. While his major performance left much to be desired, there is no doubt how dominant Rory has been this season. He leads the PGA Tour in Total Strokes Gained and has 13 (!) top-10’s in 17 starts. Coming off a T6 at The Northern Trust, Rory is primed for his 3rd victory of the season at Medinah, where he went 3-2 in Europe’s 2012 Ryder Cup win.

Brandon Raper – Rory McIlroy – I’m torn between a handful of big-time players this week at Medinah, but I’ve got to go with Rory McIlroy, who I see bringing home the title and heading to East Lake in the driver’s seat for the FedEx Cup championship.

The reason? He’s been steady and strong after a disappointing week at Royal Portrush, where he went from an overpowering favorite for a hometown Open victory to a shocking missed cut. A pair of top-ten finishes at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational and THE NORTHERN TRUST just reinforce my belief that the weather and overpowering expectations might have hurt more than we thought at The Open.

The stats are all there, but you know that by now. For a player like Rory McIlroy, he’s driven by history, and racking up wins on the way to a second FedEx Cup championship will move him that much further in that pursuit. Here’s hoping he sets plenty of alarms this time, so he doesn’t need the police escort. Not that they’d mind obliging, I’m sure.
