Francesco Molinari – 66/1 – 34th in FedEx Cup Standings

Francesco Molinari is next on the dark horse rankings. Just outside of the top 30, it won’t take too much for him to get into the Tour Championship. At only 39 points back, theoretically, 47th place could get him to the next round.

A top 25 finish would get him just over 140 points and would nearly guarantee him a spot next week.

The most surprising stat I found about Molinari was that he has only made it to the final round of the FedEx Cup playoffs once before. It’s surprising for a golfer of his caliber.

He did play well here last year, finishing T-8th. It was even more impressive after shooting par on the first day. He would finish out the week 63-64-67, getting all the way to -16.

The putter has been the downfall of Molinari this year and will be the main factor in his finish this week. He loses .258 SG putting, ranking 158th. He does make up for it with the rest of his game, ranking 74th, 72nd, and 67th in SG off the tee, on approach shots, and around the green respectively.

Molinari’s consistency will get him into the top 30 and should be good for a top 20 this week at the BMW Championship.
