Byeong Hun An – 80/1 – 61st in FedEx Cup Standings

Byeong Hun An has his work cut out for him this week. 336 points back of 30th place, he is going to need at least an 8th place finish at the BMW Championship to move on.

He made it to the BMW last year, before finishing T-29th and missing out on the final stage. That was his only trip there so far, and the closest he has come in his career to make it to the Tour Championship.

You might wonder why I am feeling so good about this particular dark horse, who doesn’t have much course history here, and that is so far back in the standings.

If his putting was average, Byeong Hun An would be one of the best players on tour. From Tee to green, he is 8th overall in SG. 41st off the tee, 28th on approach shots, and ranked #1 around the green. His putting though. Not good. That’s being nice about it too.

He ranks 187th here, giving back .564 SG. There are only eight golfers worse than him this season. If he was a zero putter, that would be good enough to increase him from 32nd overall in SG to 10th. That’s a huge jump just to become exactly average.

This is why if his putter is decent at all this week, he is going to have a great shot at winning the event. He is going to have a ton of opportunities with how great his game is. Converting them is going to determine whether or not he makes it through this round. I say he does.
