Jordan Spieth

Four years removed from Spieth’s historic five-win 2015 PGA Tour campaign, which included wins at the Master’s, U.S. Open, and Tour Championship, the young Texan is having the worst season of his career.

Spieth entered the Northern Trust ranked 69th on the FedEx points list, narrowly in the top-70 mark which determines the players that advance to the second stage of the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Finishing T6 at Liberty National boosted Spieth into the 44th position which he currently occupies.

2019 began slowly for Spieth but now finally seems to be trending in the right direction. Through the first 13 weeks of the PGA Tour season, Spieth had not finished inside the top-20. That streak was broken by three consecutive top-10 finishes at the PGA Championship, Charles Schwab Challenge, and the Memorial.

Notably, Spieth has failed to advance to the Tour Championship only once in his career, which came last year. But even while missing the tour Championship in 2018, Spieth was selected to the Ryder Cup team. 2019 however, currently looks as if Spieth will miss his first-ever international team competition.

Spieth jumped just two spots in the U.S. President’s Cup ranking from 29th to 27th and considering the talent that occupies the top-12 spots on the American side, Spieth will certainly need a win at the BMW Championship to even justify consideration for the American team.
