Tiger Woods

The 2018 FedEx Cup playoffs were the scene of Woods’ savior-like return to the PGA Tour’s winners circle. And after topping his win at the Tour Championship with a monumental win at the Master’s, Tiger looked to be back.

But for as memorable as his Master’s win was, the rest of Woods’ year has been equally forgettable.  Woods has played in just five events since winning the Master’s and has played all four rounds only twice.

A withdraw at the Northern Trust due to a reported oblique strain will now mean that Woods hasn’t finished a tournament in more than two months heading into the BMW Championship. More notably, Woods is now ranked 38th on the FedEx Cup points list and seems unlikely to return to the scene of his 2018 breakthrough win at the Tour Championship.

Once thought of as a potential playing-captain at royal Melbourne, Woods is now a far cry from his form which he began the season with. While Woods is currently 13th on the President’s Cup points list, it should be unlikely that he would select himself when Chez Reavie, Billy Horschel, Kevin Kisner, and Jordan Spieth are all vying for the final spot, and are all, importantly, healthy.

If Woods does still have hope to play on the President’s Cup team, thinking possibly that the extended break between now and December is enough to get healthy, it must start by advancing to the Tour Championship.

Woods is hopeful to play all-four rounds this week at the BMW Championship, and without a cut, he should have the opportunity once more at least defend his title at East Lake.
