I picked JT second last week and he did one better by winning the BMW Championship. Will he do it again? He’s obviously got the two-stroke advantage over Patrick Cantlay and three or more over everyone else.

How will he approach this unique week?

"“I truly have no idea. There’s nobody in the history of this sport that has experienced it so nobody knows. I don’t know if it’s going to be weird or — it’s going to be different, I know that but I don’t know,” Thomas said. “There’s so many variables and questions I have and this and that. If I birdie the first hole what am I at? I don’t know. Do I shoot a score, do I not? Whatever.”"

OK, that was pretty jumbled. But from what I gathered, JT is a little bit skeptical of the format and is going to take things as they come.

If he just keeps playing like he has, he’ll be just fine.

Thomas fired 65-69-61-68 to win the BMW by three and hold off charges from Hideki Matsuyama and Patrick Cantlay.

Despite fighting his swing at times, JT was holding out from the fairway, from the rough and all over on the greens. He hit 73.61% fairways and gained 1.282 strokes per round on the green.

It was a redeeming win for Thomas, whose summer was derailed with a wrist injury. He had been trending back up in recent weeks, though, and was due for his first win of 2019.

Thomas picked up his fifth straight top-12 last week, four of which have come in either a major, WGC or playoff event.

JT won the FedEx Cup in 2017 where he placed second at East Lake. That was his second of three top-seven finishes at this event.
