A fourth-place finish last week at the BMW Championship gives Finau an outside chance at the FedEx Cup. Despite going winless this season (and somehow since 2016), the big hitter is in the mix thanks to four top-10s this season including a runner up at Colonial and third at the Open Championship.

Finau has picked up four straight top-30s leading into East Lake. He finished T-30 at the Northern Trust. He’s guaranteed to extend that streak this week…but obviously he’s looking for something a little bigger.

He’ll have something to captain Woods prove after missing out on automatic qualifying for the American Presidents Cup team by one spot. Still, Finau isn’t the type of player to shy away from that kind of a challenge, especially with such a massive prize on the line this week.

"“Going into today I knew I needed a top three finish this week as I consolation of outside of trying to win the golf tournament. Once I knew you Justin was pulling away going into the back-9, my goals were to finish in the top two or top three to make the team,” Finau said. “So, a little bittersweet but I had a great ball-striking week, the best I’ve hit it ever. Putter got cold on me a few times I needed it and that’s kind of the story for me the last couple of days but proud of the way I fought and 4-under on the back-9 today to finish and it was a solid goal going into the Tour Championship.”"

This is Finau’s third trip to Atlanta. He was T-7 in 2017 and T-15 in 2018.

He ranks 23rd in strokes gained tee to green and 35th SG approach.

East Lake playing wet this week will play right into Finau’s hands.
