Despite modest success thus far in the playoffs, Xander Schauffele still has an outside shot at hoisting the FedEx Cup. He’ll start six shots off the lead, making things more difficult from his 2017 win at East Lake.

Schauffele carded rounds of 69-66-65-68 to beat Justin Thomas by one, the same guy Schauffele is trying to chase down this week. That was the X Man’s second win of 2017 and was the cherry on top of a Rookie of the Year season.

Schauffele defended his title with a solid T-7 last year (68-70-68-69). He’s a combined 17-under in 144 holes.

In the playoffs, Schauffele missed just his third cut of 2019 at the Northern Trust. The Californian bounced back with a T-19 last week at the BMW (67-68-70-72) while blasting it 314 off the tee. He hit a solid 62.5% fairways and 68.06% greens in regulation, but lost over half a shot a round on the greens.

He was a winner this year at the Tournament of Champions and has a second place and third place finish in majors. Schauffele made the cut in all four majors, which helped him automatically qualified for the President’s Cup team. It will be his first international team event as a pro.

Schauffele is phenomenal tee to green and should be able to keep it in play this week without sacrificing too much power.
