Jon Rahm will begin six shots back of Justin Thomas this week. Fortunately for Rahm, he knows how to go low. He’s third on the PGA Tour in birdie average, carding 4.44 per round.

He always gives himself a lot of chances for red numbers as he’s 21st in driving distance and 27th in greens in regulation.

Rahm’s played some absolutely incredible golf over his last seven starts dating back to the U.S. Open in June. There, he finished T-3 and has been inside the top 11 each week since.

He won the European Tour’s Irish Open, was T-11 at the Open Championship, seventh at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude and in the playoffs has posted T-3 and T-5 finishes.

Time and time again, he’s getting himself in the mix.

Some knock Rahm for not finishing more often when in contention, but he’s still a three-time PGA Tour winner at age 25. Plus, his remarkable consistency to always tee off late on Sunday is worth acknowledging.

This will be Rahm’s third appearance at East Lake. He finished T-7 (67-67-70-69) in 2017 and T-11 (68-68-68-72)  last year. He’s got just one round over par here and I don’t expect that number to grow.
