Tour Championship 2019: Power ranking the top ten FedEx Cup favorites
Up until a week ago, this was a lost season for the 2018 Masters champion. Now, Patrick Reed is within striking distance of becoming $15 million richer.
Reed will start the week just four shots back of Justin Thomas. Reed is in this position thanks largely to his win a couple weeks ago in the FedEx Cup Playoffs opener at the Northern Trust.
The Texan followed with a T-19 finish last week at the BMW Championship, carding rounds of 68-71-68-70. He hit 73.61% greens in regulation and had a solid putting week gaining .816 strokes per round despite a poor showing on Sunday.
Thirteen of his last 15 rounds have been in the 60s. He’s racked up eight straight top-10s including three top-10s in his last seven events.
Reed is looking for a better showing at East Lake. He’s yet to record a top 10 in five starts.
He ranks 15th on Tour in strokes gained around the green and should respond well to East Lake’s challenging rough. He’s also 36th in strokes gained from tee to green.
Automatic qualifying for the Presidents Cup ended last week. Reed missed the top eight and sits at No. 12. Given his recent form and past proficiency at international team events, Captain America is likely to be a captain’s pick by Tiger Woods.
A win this week could make that an even easier decision.
