Kevin Kisner – 125/1 – Starts at -2

Kisner had a great run in the middle of the year, where he finished in the 20’s in seven of eight tournaments. Don’t worry, I’m not leaving out the eighth tournament because he played poorly there. I was saving it for last, as it was a win at the WGC-Dell Match Play.

He looks to be getting hot again at the perfect time, and is drawing clear parallels to the 2007 New York Giants, a team that got hot at the end of the year, slid into the playoffs, and made a run to the Super Bowl before dethroning the wanna-be undefeated New England Patriots. When the 2007 Giants are mentioned, you know we are in true dark horse territory.

Kisner had to play well in each of the first two rounds of the FedEx Cup playoffs if he wanted to make it to East Lake for the Tour Championship. He did just that, finishing T-12th at the Northern Trust, and then T-9th last week at the BMW Championship.

We know he can play well here as well. He almost won the event in 2017, as he shot par on Sunday and finished T-3rd at -10. He is going to need to play at least that well this week to make up the eight-shot deficit that is sitting in his way.

The one aspect of his game that could prevent him from getting there is his around the green play. He ranks 162nd here, actually losing ground each round. If he can play like an average player there, his strong putting and solid approach and off the tee game should give him a real opportunity to make a run.

That’ll do it for this week’s edition of dark horse picks. Best of luck to everyone playing at the Tour Championship this week in their chase for the FedEx Cup.
