Top Five Incendiary Storylines from the 2019 PGA Tour Season
1. Tiger Woods’ Masters Triumph
How could this year’s number one story on the PGA Tour not be Tiger? Unlike the other storylines on this list, Tiger Woods winning the Masters isn’t controversial (or is it?). There is only one acceptable opinion here and it is that Woods’ win is the third greatest moment in American sports history. Glad you asked: 1. Miracle on Ice. 2. 2004 Red Sox. (apologies to New York and Russia…just kidding they both suck).
It’s strange how sports make up so many of our flashpoint memories. You know, the “I remember where I was” moments in our lives. Unfortunately, I was on a golf course when Tiger Woods won the Masters, specifically the sixth hole. It shouldn’t have happened like that.
I should’ve had plenty of time to get home and catch the bulk of Woods’ final round, but the starting times had been pushed up to due incoming weather in the afternoon. At the moment, it felt like the universe was conspiring against me. It turns out, I didn’t know the half of it.
CBS was replaying the final and I picked it up as Woods was making the turn. I watched that entire back-nine up to the very moment when Tiger was about to tap-in to win, and then, CUT TO CBS BREAKING IN WITH A SEVERE WEATHER REPORT.
Are you kidding me? You couldn’t wait until after he finished to tell me to take shelter?! It is important to note the while I thought this, and I did curse at the television, I didn’t not tweet this. Michael Wilbon did, however, and holy cow was he roasted (view the comments at your discretion).
My lasting memories of the 2019 Masters will be missing it live, the 12th and 16th holes, missing the replay of the celebration, and Michael Wilbon getting roasted on Twitter.
So that’s it. You’re top-5 most incendiary storylines of the 2019 PGA Tour season. Kick back and savor the year that was because it will never happen again. Special thanks to everyone who took part in making these stories so explosive (Brandel Chamblee in particular), and to the players who have given us something other than our lives to talk about it. The world is a better place for it. Cheers.
