Best Performance in a Leading Role: Brooks Koepka

It is quite challenging to carry a movie as the lead actor; you need composure, gravitas, and to lift the performers around you. Brooks Koepka, previously viewed as Dustin Johnson’s workout buddy, jumped into the leading role in 2018 with two major titles. He often felt disrespected by the lack of attention and sought to further cement his status as the best player in golf. In 2019, with the target squarely on his back, Koepka thrived and continued to dominate the sport.

To say Koepka had an incredible season would be an understatement; he finished top 4 in each major championship, which has only been done by Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Jordan Spieth. To cap it off, he won his 4th career major title at brutish Bethpage Black.

Additionally, big Hollywood stars that perform in leading roles normally focus on a few big-budget films each year. Brooks is no different, as he focused on the majors and told the media he does not practice or care much during normal PGA Tour events (Kevin Van Valkenburg wrote a great piece about that mentality).

Koepka, with his chiseled frame and blunt honesty, is the perfect antithesis to the squeaky clean image put out by other golfers. His attitude, big game performance and ability to intimidate the competition solidifies his role as the Baddest Golfer on the Planet. I previously wrote that the Florida State product deserved Player of the Year over Rory McIlroy and he is the clear winner of 2019’s Best Lead Performer.
