A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier: Top 10 power rankings
Like Im, Niemann is another young name that perhaps doesn’t get the recognition he’s due as a non-American.
In his first yeas a pro in 2018, the Chilean stacked up four top-10s in limited starts to earn his PGA Tour card by earning enough non-member points.
He added another top-10 in the fall to open last PGA Tour season. Understandable for a young player, he hit a slump last summer which coincided with the rise of the Hovlands, Wolffs and Morikawas of the world.
It now seems like Niemann’s back on the upswing. After missing the cut at the PGA Championship in May, he made nine of his 10 cuts with the only MC coming at his first Open Championship appearance. All nine made cuts resulted in T-31 or higher.
Niemann posted T-5 finishes in back-to-back weeks at the Travelers Championship and Rocket Mortgage Classic.
He’s yet to truly contend down the stretch at a PGA Tour event as three top-fives are his best career results. But he’s damn close.
Now that he’s beginning to see Tour courses for the second and third times, life should only get easier for a player who would theoretically be going into his junior season of college.
Niemann finished T-5 at the 2018 Greenbrier (63-69-72-64) and led after 18 holes. He was also T-29 here in 2017 (68-68-75-64) as an amateur, so this is a tournament that means a little bit more to him.
