Bubba tends to play his best at tournaments and venues where he feels comfortable. The family man loves the Greenbrier so much it’s a second home for him and his family.

"“The Old White, what, it’s 101 or 102 years old. So when you think about the history of the game, coming here, playing here, the big names that have been here, won here, it’s huge for golf,” Watson said before the 2018 tournament. “Then when you go to West Virginia, it’s huge for West Virginia. I mean, you’re talking about a state that is beautiful. Some people don’t ever come to. So having this resort right here, The Greenbrier, this is a beautiful place. Everybody that comes here loves it. Falls in love with it because of the atmosphere, but then as a golfer, the golf course is getting nicer as well.”"

As comfortable as the lefty is, he’s maybe not completely at peace with his tournament results. They’re not bad as he’s 5-for-5 in made cuts and has four top-30s. He was in contention through 54 holes last year with opening rounds of 68, 66 and 65, but a closing 72 pushed him down to T-13. That ties his highest Greenbrier finish (2015).

Watson didn’t win on Tour last season but had two top-fives and another top-10. He was also T-12 at the Masters.

Bubba was third on Tour last season in strokes gained off the tee. This is a course he can let loose and find the angles he’s looking for into greens.

He averaged 325.5 yards off the tee here in 2018 and hit 67.86% fairways, which is pretty good for him.

If Watson can get the putter rolling, he’ll have the chance to win for the first time since June 2018.
