It was Joaquin Niemann’s turn last week. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Scottie Scheffler’s this week.

Young guns on the PGA Tour are fearless these days and are almost expected to win right away.

Scheffler achieved just about all there is to achieve at the amateur/college ranks. The University of Texas standout was a U.S. Junior champ, Big 12 champ, Walker Cup member, All-American, etc.

The 2018 college grad made his way onto the Korn Ferry Tour last year and won twice to lock up his card and finish atop the standings.

Scheffler was the best player in the KFT Finals and brought his form to last week’s A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier where he finished T-7 (65-62-71-69). He was in contention through 36 holes before he and Niemann went opposite directions on the weekend.

The 23-year-old was first in the field last week in strokes gained tee to green (2.833). He’s got work to do on (-.438 SG putting) and around the greens (-.07).

While this is his rookie season on the PGA Tour, Scheffler has made plenty of starts in the big leagues. That includes the Sanderson Farms Championship where he finished T-45 in 2018 (68-72-73-70).

Despite hitting less than 60% fairways that week, he still hit 76.39% of greens in regulation. If he keeps that strong approach game on point, I like him to have a big week here in Mississippi.
