Corey Conners was one of the more impressive stories of 2019. Using Monday qualifiers, sponsor exemptions and any means he could to get into tournaments, Conners worked his way into full-time PGA Tour status thanks in large part to a win at the Texas Open.

He cooled down a bit in the summer, but his form picked back up to get him all the way to East Lake for the Tour Championship.

The Canadian is on a streak of five straight finishes inside the top 27, including a T-7 at the FedEx Cup Playoffs’ penultimate event, the BMW Championship.

He comes into the week rested with his last start four weeks ago at the Tour Championship.

Perhaps more importantly is Conners’ success at the Sanderson Farms Championship. In his tournament debut, he finished solo second and had the best score over the final 54 holes (71-68-64-68).

It was a big week as he had just married his wife, Malory.

The two have a lot of money to spend thanks to Conners’ season aided by his elite ball striking. Conners was eighth on Tour in strokes gained off the tee (.653), ninth in approach (.665) and ninth tee to green (1.196).

Like a lot of young and/or inexperienced players, the 27-year-old had trouble close to the greens on new courses. He was outside the top 100 in strokes gained around the green and putting.

Fortunately, he’s seeing the Country Club of Jackson for the third time as he also finished T-65 here in 2017.

Conners finished 13th in the International Presidents Cup standings to miss out on automatically qualifying. A good stint this fall could have him in contention for a captain’s pick for the event coming this December in Australia.
