Adam Scott has tended to keep a light schedule throughout his career that will hit 20 years in 2020. So, it’s no surprise he hasn’t made his way to the Safeway Open before.

The 39-year-old Aussie hasn’t pegged it since he finished T-5 at the Tour Championship, so he’ll be rested and relaxed heading in.

While a softer course might be more useful for the sweet-swinging Scott, Aussies tend to fare well on the firm and fast courses like Silverado could be playing this week.

Scott is winless for the third year in a row barring a win to round out 2019. That belies the good form he’s been in. He has two runner-up finishes in 2019 at strong events like the Farmers Insurance Open and the Memorial.

In 15 events in 2019, he has eight top-10s and just three missed cuts. He had three top-20s in the majors and was in the top 10 in all three FedEx Cup Playoffs events.

Scott ranked inside the top 43 on Tour in each of the main strokes gained categories. Most notably, he was 31st in SG putting (.348). That’s up from 165th in 2017-18 (-.285). It’s his first time inside the top 100 since 2013-14.

His elite ball-striking is less surprising. Scott was fourth in SG approach (.846) and fourth tee to green (1.483). Scott also had the touch around the greens (10th, .351).

Scott is Tiger-like in his scheduling in that he mainly plays big-time events or near the majors. Here against a relatively weak field, it will be interesting to see if Scott can pick up his first win since he won back-to-back weeks in February and March 2016.
