Webb Simpson has one of, if not the, best resumes at the Shriners Hospitals for Children open. He won in 2013 (64-63-67-66), finished T-4 in 2010 (69-65-67-68) and 2014 (66-66-64-68) and has made his last six cuts after an MC in his 2009 debut. He’s been in the top 20 five times, including T-15 last year (68-69-68-66).

"“I love coming here,” Simpson said in 2014. “It’s always great weather, as we’re going to see again this week, I believe. But I think I love this golf course because it reminds me of the course I grew up playing.  You have a lot of options off the tee, and greens are undulating and fast. So I’m just comfortable here, comfortable playing this kind of golf.”"

Simpson finished the 2018-19 PGA Tour season in fine form despite going winless. The Presidents Cup automatic qualifier had three runner-up finishes since July coming at the Canadian Open, WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational and Wyndham Championship. He also placed top-25 at the first two FedEx Cup Playoff events to secure his spot at the Tour Championship.

The 34-year-old Wake Forest grad was fifth in total strokes gained (1.507), 11th in SG putting (.608) and 14th in SG approach (.613). While he’s far from the bomber type that predominates this week’s rankings, Simpson can take advantage of usually firm and fast conditions to get the ball out there and use his accuracy to avoid the trouble that can lurk in the Nevada desert.

He was 145th in driving distance (288.6) and 44th in driving accuracy (66.82%).
