Houston Open: Top 10 power rankings at CC of Houston
Beau Hossler’s closest call at his first PGA Tour win came at the 2018 Houston Open. Playing in the final pairing with Ian Poulter, Hossler matched the multi-PGA Tour winner with a Sunday 67 to go to a playoff. Hossler narrowly missed a birdie putt on the 72nd hole.
Hossler carded rounds of 65-68-69 earlier.
Poulter used tidy golf to make a par 4 on the first playoff hole to get by Hossler, who limped to a 7 after his tee shot found the bunker.
He hasn’t found himself back in that position yet, but the 24-year-old feels more confident in being able to handle the moment once he does.
"“This was by far the most comfortable I’ve felt in that final pairing or near contention, so I’ve proven myself now that I can win out here without a question of a doubt,” Hossler said in 2018. “Just a matter of time.”"
That high finish, along with a T-2 at the 2018 Travelers Championship, allowed the University of Texas product to keep his card for 2018-19. An up and down season sent him to the Korn Ferry Tour Finals. He had five top-30s and played well early in tournaments, but couldn’t get into the house for a top 10.
The supremely talented player, who made the cut at the U.S. Open at age 16, finished T-2 at the first KFT event and followed it up with a T-25 to lock up his card.
He’s made two of his first three cuts in 2019-2020, including a T-29 last week at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open (67-65-71-67).
