It appears to be a matter of when, not if, young gun Scottie Scheffler wins his first PGA Tour event. The former Texas Longhorn standout won twice and was runner up twice more in his first year as a pro on the Korn Ferry Tour.

He finished first in the three-event KFT Finals thanks to a win, a T-11, and a T-7.

Scheffler earned his PGA Tour card with aplomb and is making hay in the fall. He opened with a T-7 at the Greenbrier, was T-16 at the Sanderson Farms Championship and was T-74 last week in Las Vegas. Unlike a lot of players in this week’s field who are grinding to improve their status for the upcoming reshuffle, Scheffler took a week off (at the Safeway) and could have a little more gas in the tank.

He ranks fourth in the early going in strokes gained approach (2.013) and 16th off the tee (.89).

The 23-year-old missed just five cuts in 26 starts in 2019 between the KFT and PGA Tour.

Not only will Scheffler have support from his Longhorn brethren this week, but there will sure to be folks from his native Dallas making the trip south to root him on.
