Sebastian Munoz retained his early lead in the FedEx Cup standings despite a missed cut last week at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. That’s because it was his only blemish in four starts in the 2019-2020 season.

The Colombian earned his first career PGA Tour win at the Sanderson Farms Championship where he beat Rookie of the Year Sungjae Im in a playoff. This was on the heels of a T-7 finish the week prior, playing at A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier.

After Sanderson, the 26-year-old PGA Tour sophomore got in contention again at the Safeway Open. He got into the final group on Sunday before fading for a T-33. Munoz missed the cut last week in Las Vegas, but a couple of extra days to recoup for the Houston Open can’t be the worst thing.

The MC snapped a streak of nine straight cuts made.

He is making his debut at the Golf Club of Houston. He’ll find it’s a layout that benefits a long and relatively straight hitter like him. Munoz is 34th this season in driving distance (324.4) and 68th in driving accuracy (62.5%). He’s also sixth in SG approach (1.428) and 29th around the green (.55).

Munoz has played well in Texas before. He finished T-10 at this year’s AT&T Byron Nelson at another firm and fast course.
