Big Leish is looking for his third consecutive quality finish at the CJ Cup. He dropped to Justin Thomas in a two-hole playoff in 2017 (66-72-71-70). A beautiful 3-wood approach on the 18th on Sunday helped him get into the playoff.

In 2018, a week after winning the now-defunct CIMB Classic, Leishman finished T-18 at the CJ Cup (75-71-68-66) where he was one of the best players on the weekend.

Leishman began his career playing in Korea, so he figures to be as comfortable as any non-natives this week.

The Aussie can also take comfort in his recent form. Leishman was solo third a few weeks ago at the Safeway Open (70-72-67-65). That’s a good sign after he was forced to withdraw from the Greenbrier after getting hit by an errant shot during the pro-am, which aggravated an already ailing back.

With some rest, Leishman should be ready to go in Asia where he’s played some of his best golf.

The 35-year-old was 26th on Tour last season in total strokes gained (.833) and was in the positive in all the main SG categories.

Leishman lived up to the Australian stereotype of having solid bunker play. He was 23rd in sand save percentage (58.21%), which will be useful at Nine Bridges.

Leishman was also 31st in par-5 scoring (4.55).

He had 12 top-25s in the 2018-19 Tour season.
