Tommy Fleetwood is making his CJ Cup debut this week, as well as his 2019-2020 PGA Tour season debut. The Englishman’s last three starts have come on the European Tour, but he’s taking a break from that schedule until the Race to Dubai begins to ramp up next month.

The 28-year-old star last teed it up a few weeks back at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship where he posted a T-5 finish. That was his 27th consecutive stroke-play cut made between both tours, which shows his remarkable consistency. He’s finished top-13 in six of his last eight events and reached the Tour Championship for the second year in a row.

Fleetwood has the ball striking to tear apart Nine Bridges, especially if the weather is benign as expected. The long-haired lad was 12th on the PGA Tour last season in strokes gained off the tee (.545) and 55th in SG approach (.235). While he ranks only 150th in birdie rate (3.53 per round), he was eighth in scoring average (69.729). That’s because he had a better short game than perhaps he gets credit for (.329 SG around the green, 15th). The putter also was fairly reliable (.169 SG, 55th).

His long iron play should benefit him well this week as he’s third in approaches from 200-plus yards (43’11”).

While this will be Fleetwood’s first trip to South Korea, he’s played well in Asia before, particularly in China. He was solo second at the 2017 Shenzhen International and solo second at the 2014 China Open.
