I don’t mean this as a knock on Xander Schauffele as he’s a solid player throughout the year. But he plays some of his best golf in limited field events.

Three of his four PGA Tour wins (which is remarkable by age 25) have come against fields under 100 players.

With that said, these fields are all packed with world top-25 players and he’s earning his stripes.

Schauffele nearly won his fifth event at yet another limited-field event, the Tour Championship.

The X Man had time in the spotlight in 2019 at the Masters (T-2) and U.S. Open (T-3), as well as with a win at the Tournament of Champions.

Schauffele can crush the ball and is among those who would stand to benefit on a wet golf course. He was 11th in strokes gained tee to green (1.149) but was top 50 in all SG categories.

There may be some rust as this is the San Diego State product’s first start in a month and a half, but he’s just too consistent to ignore completely.

He and his fellow top American players are at the point where they’re looking to ramp up their play with the Presidents Cup less than two months away.
